FAQs about working with a copy and content writer

Can your copywriting and content writing get my creative or purpose-led business to page one of Google?

Despite what some people tell you, there isn't a 'page one' of Google or any search engine. The results you get vary depending on your location, IP address, search history and more. Any copywriter or SEO specialist who promises you that they can "get you to the top of page one" isn't being very honest.

What I do is increase your chances of being found on Google and, these days, AI search engines and LLMs, by making your words work as hard as possible. All my copy and content is search engine optimised (properly researched keywords used strategically thoughout), balanced with being on brand, in your tone of voice and talking to your ideal clients.

How long have you been a copywriter, and what are your qualifications?

I'm now into my second decade as I started copywriting in 2016. Alongside my work with creative and purpose-led businesses, I've also written for brands such as English Heritage, Girlguiding and Gardens Illustrated. In terms of qualifications, I've got a BA and MA in English Literature, a diploma in magazine journalism, and a HubSpot qualification in on-page SEO. Web copywriting is always evolving, so I regularly update my skills with courses and workshops.

What's the difference between website copywriting and copy editing?

My copywriting service is where I write completely fresh, brand-new copy for your entire website. It's ideal if you're launching a new business, or if you've outgrown your existing copy. Website editing is the service to opt for if you're happy with your copy, but know that it could be improved for SEO & AIO, and given a tone of voice polish.

What are your payment terms?

For copywriting, copy editing and my blog strategy, I ask for 50% on signing of the contract, and 50% on sign off of the copy. For ongoing or one-off blogging, and my website audit & review, I invoice after the work is signed off. For Sip & Solve, you pay in advance to reserve your slot.

I'd love to work with you but my budget is small. What can you offer?

I appreciate budgets can be tight, which is why I have a range of price points for working with me. My Sip & Solve session is £75, while a website audit is £250. Both of these will give you plenty of ideas and DIY improvements for your website.

What's the difference between copy and content writing?

Copy is written specifically to drive people towards a certain action, so it's the writing you see on website home pages and sales pages. Content is more educative, informative and entertaining – think blogs and social media captions. Check out my blog post for more detail on the difference. I offer both copywriting and content writing for creative and purpose-led businesses – website copy and blogs.

I’m not in Bristol/the South West/the UK. Can you still work with me?

Absolutely! I’ve worked with businesses across the country and the world. While it’s lovely to have clients who are in or close to Bristol so we can chat over a coffee and a doughnut, video calls and file sharing means I can work with anyone, anywhere.

Can you recommend any website designers or brand designers to help me with my website visuals?

I'd love to recommend some of the very talented web designers, photographers and branding specialists I've worked with over the years.

Do you work with just creative and purpose-led businesses?

I also love writing copy and content for wedding businesses, based in my background of editing a wedding magazine. You can find out more at my other site The Wedding Wordsmith.
